We sponsored the Agile Open California conference for the second consecutive year and the event was held last week. It is a really stimulating, interesting and non-traditional conference. For example, there is no conference agenda. Instead, it follows the open-space model for self-organization, where people put sessions on a centralized board in real time, and people show up at the events that are of interest to them. I find the format to be very dynamic and engaging, allowing for the ideas in one session to literally give birth to other sessions which follow. If you are interested in learning more about Agile practices or have already adopted them and are looking to connect with others to share best practices and ideas, I strongly recommend this conference. The conference is part of the AgileOpen, and in fact there are conferences organized in this style all over the world, so check out whether there is one coming up near you. The theme at Agile Open California this year was Principles to Practice, and so in keeping with this theme, my colleague at Luminous Group, Volker Frank, hosted a session on Agile and Strategic Business Planning. My colleague Amy Lightholder hosted a survey session on Tools for Agile, while I hosted a more specific session on Team Foundation Server for Agile. We also had the opportunity to meet some really interesting people and learn a lot ourselves. |
